Walmart Seller Account Suspended? How to Write an Appeal That Gets You Reinstated

Few emails hit harder than the one telling you your Walmart Marketplace account has been suspended. Your listings disappear, sales stop and you are left wondering if the account is gone for good. In many cases it is not. Walmart lets sellers appeal, and a clear, well-prepared appeal gives you the best chance of getting back to selling. Here is how the process works and how to write an appeal that Walmart can say yes to.

First: don’t panic, and don’t rush

The worst thing you can do is fire off an emotional reply within the hour. Walmart’s team reviews appeals against the specific issue they flagged. A rushed message that argues or apologises without fixing anything usually gets rejected. Take a day to understand exactly what went wrong, fix it, and then write.

Why Walmart suspends sellers

Most suspensions fall into a few groups. Your notice in Seller Center will tell you which one applies to you:

  • Performance metrics: on-time delivery, valid tracking, cancellations, response rate or refund rate falling below Walmart’s standards.
  • Product authenticity or intellectual property: complaints that items are counterfeit, or that listings use a brand’s name or images without permission.
  • Policy violations: prohibited or restricted products, misleading listings, or pricing issues.
  • Account and identity issues: business details that don’t match, verification problems or linked accounts.

Step 1: Read the notice line by line

Find the exact reason, the affected orders or listings, and any deadline. Download or copy the notice so you can refer back to it. Your appeal must answer this issue, not a general one.

Step 2: Find the root cause

Ask why it really happened, not just what happened. “We shipped late” is a symptom. “Our supplier missed delivery dates and we had no backup stock” is a root cause. Walmart wants to see that you understand the cause, because that is what proves it won’t happen again.

Step 3: Fix it before you write

An appeal is far stronger when the fixes are already done. Depending on the issue, that might mean removing problem listings, switching suppliers, getting invoices or brand authorization letters, moving fast-selling items to Walmart Fulfillment Services, or putting a daily metrics check in place.

Step 4: Write a clear Plan of Action

A good appeal is short, factual and organised in three parts:

  1. Root cause: what caused the problem, in one or two specific sentences.
  2. Actions taken: what you have already done to fix the affected orders or listings.
  3. Preventive measures: the processes you now have in place so it does not happen again, with names of tools, checks and who is responsible.

Use bullet points, keep it professional, and avoid blaming Walmart, customers or carriers.

Step 5: Attach the right evidence

  • Supplier invoices that match the products, quantities and your business name.
  • Brand authorization letters where you sell branded items.
  • Proof of fixes: screenshots of updated listings, new shipping settings or tracking reports.

Make sure every document is clear, complete and consistent with the details on your account.

Common mistakes that get appeals rejected

  • Generic templates copied from the internet that don’t mention your actual issue.
  • Blaming others instead of taking ownership of the fix.
  • Vague promises like “we will be more careful” without a real process behind them.
  • Missing or edited documents, or invoices that don’t match the listings.
  • Sending several rushed appeals instead of one complete one.

After reinstatement: protect the account

Getting reinstated is only half the job. Check your Seller Scorecard every day, answer customers quickly, upload valid tracking on every order and never list stock you don’t have. That is how the store in our Walmart case study keeps 100% on-time delivery and 0% cancellations. Frequently asked questions

How long does a Walmart suspension appeal take?

It varies. Some appeals get an answer within days, others take a few weeks, especially if Walmart asks for more information. A complete, specific first appeal is the best way to avoid going back and forth.

Can I appeal more than once?

Usually you can respond again if your first appeal is rejected, but every rejection makes the next one harder. It is worth taking the time to get the first appeal right instead of sending something quick.

Will my listings and funds come back after reinstatement?

Typically your account and listings are restored when an appeal is accepted. How held funds are handled depends on the reason for the suspension, so check the exact terms in your Seller Center notice.

What is the difference between a suspension and a performance warning?

A warning means a metric or policy issue needs fixing, but you can still sell. A suspension stops your selling privileges until Walmart accepts your appeal. Acting on warnings quickly is the best way to avoid a suspension.
